President Joe Biden has spent 39 percent of his presidency – 360 days, almost a full year – on vacation, according to the National Pulse.
The Pulse noted: “the president’s time spent away from the White House and his presidential duties has increased from 25 percent.” This amounted to a 56 percent jump in the last two years since the outlet last reported on Biden’s vacations.
Biden spent the last weekend of July sitting at Rehoboth Beach in his home state of Delaware, Breitbart reported. He was accompanied by First Lady Jill Biden, who will continue to do so for a total of 10 days. The news outlet remarked: “The president will be gone for a full business week, book-ended by two weekends.”
The chief executive has admitted to taking every opportunity possible to go on vacation, saying back in 2021: “Every time I get a chance, I go home to Delaware. You think I’m joking. I’m not.”
Aside from his family’s home in the First State, the president has also spent weeks staying in the homes of some of his largest donors. He previously stayed in the home of Oklahoma bigwigs Bill and Connie Neville in the U.S. Virgin Islands. He had also stayed in the compound of billionaire investor David Rubenstein in Martha’s Vineyard, located in Massachusetts.
According to Breitbart, the 80-year-old Joe has often been away during international or domestic emergencies. Back in August 2021, he chose to take a vacation at Camp David in Maryland. His vacation seemed to be ill-timed as the world was watching the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban and subsequent mass evacuations out of the country. In contrast, former President Donald Trump spent 132 days away from the White House at his own properties. He would either spend the winter at Mar-a-Lago in Florida or head over to Bedminster in New Jersey for the summer.
The president’s frequent long vacations, coupled with serious doubts about his cognitive faculties, have contributed to calls for him to abandon his pursuit of a second presidential term. He would turn 82 by the time the November 2024 elections happen, and would end his second term at the age of 86.
One survey conducted by the Daily Mail and JL Partners in June 2023 asked 1,000 Americans about their thoughts on the president seeking a second term. The survey found that 71 percent believe he is too old for another four-year stint at the White House.
A demographic breakdown of the survey results reflected the same sentiment. Respondents aged 18 and up overwhelmingly deem the president overage, and so did the majority of White and Hispanic respondents. Along party lines, 94 percent of Republicans and 71 percent of independents believe the president should hang up his boots for good.
“These statistics highlight a growing sentiment among the electorate that Biden’s age may hinder his ability to lead effectively for another four years,” the Mail noted.
Another survey, this time from July 2023, polled more than 2,000 registered voters about the current political landscape. The poll by Harvard University‘s Center for American Political Studies and Harris Insights and Analytics found that 59 percent of all the survey’s respondents said they have doubts about the incumbent president’s mental fitness. Along party lines, 85 percent of GOP voters and 71 percent of independents have that sentiment.
Likewise, 66 percent of overall respondents say Biden is too old for the presidency. An overwhelming 91 percent of GOP voters say the 80-year-old is too old, a sentiment shared by three-fourths – 75 percent – of independents. Sixty-four percent of overall respondents say Biden shouldn’t run for a second term in 2024, up two points from 62 percent in June. Eighty-eight percent of GOP voters believe he should hang up his boots for good, something 75 percent of independents also agree upon.
