The Department of Defense (DoD) has confirmed that leaked footage of an “unidentified aerial phenomenon” (UAP) taken in 2019 is legitimate, according to a recent report from India Today.
The footage was released by documentary filmmaker Jeremy Corbell on May 15. Corbell said a Navy personnel aboard the USS Omaha captured the footage on July 15, 2019. In an email to The Debrief, Pentagon spokesperson Susan Gough confirmed that the video was, in fact, taken by Navy personnel.
Gough also said that the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force (UAPTF) included the clip in their ongoing examinations. The UAPTF was established last year to gain insight into the nature and origins of UAP.
In 2019, the U.S. Navy reported sightings of UAP – the Pentagon’s term for “unidentified flying objects” (UFOs). The USS Omaha was among the vessels that observed UAP sightings off the coast of California.
Corbell, a UFO enthusiast and the filmmaker behind the 2018 documentary about Area 51 and “flying saucers,” posted the 46-second clip on Twitter. He said the footage showed a “significant UFO event series.” It has garnered over 900,000 views.
In the video, a radar screen can be seen with several objects moving around the ship. At some point, an unidentified man can be heard saying, “They’re moving fast … They’re turning around.”
Corbell said the UFOs also seemed to be capable of traveling through air and water. Citing intelligence reports, Corbell said the UFOs couldn’t be found after entering the water, even after a submarine was used in the search. In fact, the search recovered nothing, said Corbell on his website.
Intelligence agencies are expected to present a report on UAP to Congress this month. The report, prepared by the director of national intelligence and the secretary of defense, will make public what the Pentagon knows about UFOs so far. Some former federal officials have teased that the report will include unexplainable events.
Last year, Pentagon officials declassified three videos of UFO sightings taken by Navy pilots, sparking renewed interest and speculation into how the government has handled sightings of UFOs.
This isn’t the first time that Corbell shared leaked footage claiming to prove the existence of UFOs. In April, Corbell released an 18-second, green-tinged video.
In the video, three faint orbs can be seen hovering over the USS Russell, a U.S. Navy destroyer, and another ship. The footage was captured in 2019. But it wasn’t until early this year that the Navy confirmed the authenticity of the clip.
Corbell said he verified the clip’s authenticity after gathering information from an intelligence briefing last May. During the briefing, officials confirmed that the footage was captured by Navy personnel. However, they did not describe the actual contents of the footage in question.
Moreover, Corbell said he received information about another UFO sighting on March 4, 2019, from a F/A-18 pilot and weapons systems officer. Corbell said they are authentic photos and videos from actual military encounters with UFOs of the information he received. He said the information was generated to educate high-level intelligence officers within the military on the nature of the UAP-UFO phenomenon.
Corbell said he hopes the photos and videos will be representative of a “unique moment in modern history,” as well as of a possible turning point towards the rational and transparent approach of investigating and exploring the mystery of the UAP-UFO phenomenon.
